Discraft Zeus Review – Stable Driver Heaven?

The Discraft Zeus used to be known as King Kong but not anymore. Maybe a player much stronger than King Kong himself is required to throw this hot, revered disc.

The disc’s design is a product of Paul McBeth’s collaboration with Discraft. Mcbeth played no small part every step of the way in order to create a portable driver disc best suited to the game. Zeus has ranked amongst a few of the most popular distance drivers in the world since its release earlier in 2019.

On the market, the Discraft Zeus is most similar to the Innova Destroyer in both flight and feel. Their similarity doesn’t come as a huge surprise, considering that Zeus was designed for a five-time world champion, Paul McBeth himself.

This disc feels very comfortable to grasp, making you more positive about your game. It might not be easy to find the right driver that offers a steady flight pattern, but that seems to be exactly what Zeus gives. It’s quite intriguing to stand back and watch as your throw continues down the fairway.

It has so far been a great choice of disc for forehands, especially if you can snap it swiftly with no turn over mid-flight. If you are keen to know more about this popular disc made by Discraft; keep reading this piece to understand more about Discraft Zeus.

Types of Plastic

Having gone through Discraft Zeus dimensions and specs, there’s still more to our Discraft Zeus review. Most of these discs come in different plastics, meaning that each plastic weighs, grip, and fly slightly differently. So let’s talk about them.

Pro D Plastic

Discraft Pro D plastic offers value and quality. This disc is quite affordable and not too bad for beginners. It also comes with a great grip.

  • Great choice for beginners and professionals
  • Affordable and easy to manage
  • Offers a good grip
  • Comes in a variety of colors

Elite X Plastic

Elite X plastic offers great grip, even when wet and offers a more consistent flight pattern than Pro D. We’d say its value is just superb!

Elite Z Plastic

Elite Z plastic is the toughest type of plastic in Discraft with two to three times more longevity. It’s the most durable plastic so far and comes in colors that are vibrant and translucent.

ESP Plastic

The Discraft ESP (Elite Special Plastic) is made of a polymer blend more durable than Elite-X. However, it is less solid in grip than Z Line plastic. The Discraft Zeus ESP plastic is designed to be durable and often includes colour swirls to add interest.

  • It is the toughest plastic which has an excellent grip.
  • Grips harder than the Elite Z
  • More durable than Elite X
  • Even more advanced than polymer plastic

FLX Plastic

The FLX plastic is the overall best pick for all kinds of weather. Slushy and supple, It is a uniquely higher model of ESP plastic. Even in all kinds of weather, it retains its firm of stability.

Titanium Plastic

Now what you have here is the best of all Discraft plastics. Its appearance is unique and insanely cool while giving the hghest performance blend. It’s also durable and has a strong drip which is what you want from a much superior plastic

Discraft Z FLX plastic

Discraft Z FLX plastic is a combination of cushioning FLX plastic and Z plastic. Great grip for all weather, it is easier to get hold of especially in cold periods. You’ll notice it also comes in beautiful opaque colors.

Zeus Flight Ratings and Flight Pattern

All players should make it a point of interest to understand the flight ratings and pattern of the Discraft Zeus disc or any other discs. That’s because these ratings show how stable a disc is in different conditions.

Zeus has its speed of 12, glide at 5, fade at -1, and turn at 3. Distance driver glides along fairways with the right flip up to ensure maximum distance. Although being a high-glide disc, its flight is very stable.

Should You Go For Zeus?

The Discraft Zeus is best for strong throwers. If you are great at throws and can handle the stability levels, you can go for it. In addition, players who can perfectly do backhand and forehand throws can drive the disc without flaws.

Final Thoughts On the Discraft Zeus

One standout attribute of Discraft Zeus is that you can use this versatile driver in the windiest of weather conditions and still have great control. In light of the disc’s 12.0 speed, we might not advise complete beginners to use it. But if you are a little advanced and or at an intermediate level, it could be just fine for you.

Also, one other thing we love about this disc is its durability. As a result of its rim, the disc maintains a consistent glide and flight, even in windy weather conditions.

However, the Zeus disc is very flexible. So, if you desire a flight plate with more stiffness, you will have to look elsewhere. When you throw it, expect a fairly straight flight with an over stable finish. But it shines more when thrown on a slight anhyzer. As much as most players use it exclusively for backhanded throws, it is also a superb option for sidearm drives.
