Innova Spider Review – The Predictable Mid-Range Disc

The Innova Spider is a low-speed approach disc with a steady flight pattern that we’d say pans out nicely. With this disc, you may throw hyzer, anhyzers, straights, and turnovers.

Spider is a popular mid-range disc that has more prominent speed and stability ratings than most of its competitors. This small-diameter disc can withstand a headwind and survive. Advanced players for more sophisticated drives tend to prefer this disc.

Spiders are straight flyers with a low fade that may be useful for single disc rounds. They can be hyzered, flipped, putted with, and have a decent range. However, this disc is superior for forehands, shooting in tunnels, as it can go laser beam straight with a small hyzer. In this Innova Spider review we’ll cover the ins and outs of this disc!

Specifications of the Innova Spider

Overall, the Spider is a flexible disc with minimal glide. And since there is not that much glide, it makes it quite simple to manage distance and precision. The disc is a good approach disc that is dependable at low speeds, and rolling over a little at higher speed.

The Spider is now a prominent mid-range disc from Innova, one of the most influential firms majoring in developing disc golf gear in the United States. They’ve amassed a vast disc inventory for golfers to pick from.

Types of Plastics

Innova Spider comes in various ranges of plastics. In this review, there are two different vital plastic types for the Spider golf disc – Star and DX plastic. Let’s talk about them for a bit.

Star Plastic

Considered by most as top-of-the-line for Innova, this all-weather grip provides and combines the feel of Pro plastic with the durability of Champion plastic, resulting in what we know as Star Plastic. It also can retain flight characteristics better than any other plastic.

The Spider Star is a versatile mid-range driver that can be used for hyzer, straight, and turnover throws. If you throw it with the nose up, it will turn left, and if you throw it with the nose down, it will turn right. This range is very much tough and supplies an excellent grip in both cold and wet situations.

DX Plastic

The DX Spider range retains its over stability, but becomes somewhat less stable over time and flies a little straighter. It is preferable for short approaches, with grip is ideal for every weather condition while providing consistent throwing ability. The DX Plastic will break in overtime, so the combat patterns may become altered slightly with additional wear and tear, unlike other discs.

In all, we’d say Spider Star plastic is the premium of Innova’s plastic ranges, with resilient polymers providing maximum grip and durability. The flying qualities of Star discs are similar to those of Champion discs, and  they are somewhat less firm. Innova Star series discs are a terrific choice for your game because of their high performance, durability, and outstanding grip.

Spider Flight Ratings and Flight Pattern

The flight characteristics represent how well the disc will perform under ideal conditions based on the specs. The 5-speed Innova Spider has a 3-glide rating, 0-turn rating, and 3-fade rating.

Spider is fantastic and a real tailwind bomber that has more speed and stability when in flight compared to most mid-range discs. The disc can be a reliable straight flyer at low speed.

Expect a relatively straight flight with a solid finish when you toss it flat. However, Innova Spider sparkles much brighter when thrown on a mild anhyzer. The majority of players only use it for backhanded throws, but it’s also a great alternative for hyzer drives

Who the Spider is Best For

The Innova Spider is an excellent option for players looking for a neutral, multi-purpose yet stable midrange disc. This disc is suited for players of all skill levels who prefer a disc with a smaller diameter. It is a pretty old mold, but still has a perfect flight path and is very consistent.

For people who have never played before. The disc is straightforward to throw and doesn’t flip on new players. It also doesn’t have the kind of fade that punishes them for terrible throws. Best of all, it comes with a big, deep rim so they can get a good hold on it.

This disc pretty much goes wherever you throw it, good or bad. We would definitely recommend this disc to anyone (beginners included) looking for a versatile straight shooter disc with many glides. You need a midrange that heads fearlessly into the wind? Grab a Spider. Want a midrange that turns in either direction? Grab a Spider.
